Baker Creek was named after a prospector who was searching for mineral deposits in the area during the 1880’s. Whether or not he discovered gold is unknown and his subsequent adventures remain a mystery.
Baker Creek Chalets originated circa `1949 as an overnight stop on the scenic Banff – Lake Louise coach road; the original TransCanada Highway and now the Bow Valley Parkway, at the confluence of the creek and the Bow River. Sightseeing tourists, adventurous travelers and hikers journeying to and from Lake Louise and Jasper would stop at the Bistro Restaurant—a tradition that continues today.
